How to Care for Latex Clothing by Restrict Gear
Posted by Chris on 24th Dec 2020
Latex is a unique and very personal experience to wear, especially for us at Restrict Gear. We wanted to share how we care for ours. Everybody has there own way to wash, clean and polish and there is no right way, but more of a personal choice. However here are some rough guides we love to use.
Latex Care/Cleaning
There are some specific instructions to take care of latex and maintain its quality as it is not like any other garment. However, it is not difficult or time-consuming to do so. You can simply hand wash the latex gear in warm clean water with no soap. When the latex is dry, you can sprinkle it with talc powder. This prevents the latex from sticking together. (You should not tumble dry, iron, or dry clean latex.) You then hang the latex in a dark place in a clothing bag. One preferably made of black polythene is the best to keep sunlight away, as it can cause damage and discolouration.
Polishing
The natural gloss on latex gear can be enhanced by polishing it lightly with Vivishine spray, vivlshine wash or Pjur polish. These are our highly recommended polishes as they are long-lasting and offer a deep shine. Due to their unique spray head design, they offer great results. The mist of the spray hits where it should go and can be easily applied. There are many out in the market go give them a try. It can be applied in any situation where you are needing a quick polish.
Application of Polish
Vivishine spray or Pjur should be applied from a distance of 20-30cm. The mist of the polish will spread itself on to the surface of the latex and immediately start to shine. Your ready to go......
Other Important Tips
For an easier way to put on latex garments, you can first lightly dust the inside with talc.
To avoid making any damage or tearing use plenty of lube or talc to help you inside your gear.
Do not use any oil-based lubricants or creams as this will destroy the material. Grease damages latex quickly and will destroy your gear.
Avoid polishing the latex surface with a hard-dry cloth as this can permanently scratch the material.
If exposed to heat or sunlight, latex can discolor so avoid doing so.
Avoid storing your latex garments in damp conditions or near heaters.
As long as you follow the above tips and care instructions, you will get a long-lasting life out of your latex clothing. The gear will remain in great condition and you can enjoy the rubber time and time again.
